The Fairy

I read "The Fairy" written by Charles Perrault.

"Am I come hither," said the proud, ill-bred girl, "to serve you with water, pray? I suppose this silver tankard was brought purely for your ladyship, was it? However, you may drink out of it, if you have a fancy."

"You are scarcely polite," answered the fairy, without anger. "Well, then, since you are so disobliging, I give you for gift that at every word you speak there shall come out of your mouth a snake or a toad."

The main character of this story is beautiful and poor one girl. One day, she was asked to give water by her cold-hearted mother and she did it. When she was at fountain, she happened to meet a poor woman; actually, she was a fairy and she pretend the poor woman in order to see how she was polite and has a good manner. The girl gave the woman the clearest water. And as a return for it, she gave the girl great gift such as flowers and jewels. Her mother who saw this hoped that the same incident would occur again and sent her another elder daughter. But different from her sister, she got a bad gift such as a viper and a toad. Mother got angry and ran to beat young daughter, so she got away from her mother and hid in the forest. The girl who was kicked out was found there by accident, and loved by King's son, and married him.

It was first time for me to read this story. Young daughter was really poor girl at first so I felt sad. But at the end, she could meet good boy, King's son. I would like her to have happy time for the rest of her life.
