ER2021 #9 July 9th

I read the book called "CHRISTMAS IN PRAGUE" written by Joyce Hannam.

'Jan! Jan! It's me, Carol!'

A lot of people stopped this time. They all looked at her. The man stopped too. He turned and looked at Carol for a minute, but he didn't smile and he didn't speak.

This story consist of 7 chapter.

 The main character are Carol, her husband, Jan and his father, Josef. They live in England together. One day, Carol receives the letter, which say that she is asked to help the performance of concert in Prague on Christmas Day. She can plays the harp, so She wants to go there with them. But Josef, the father of her husband seems to have bad memory in Prague, so she and her husband can't tell him about that. But at last, Josef makes up his mind and decides to go there together. 

The Day when Christmas day is coming soon, she is in Prague to practice the playing for the concert before Jan and Josef arrive. After practicing, she buys Christmas present for two men. On her way back to the hotel, she thinks she sees Jan, who should still be in England, so she shout at him loudly. Then he saw her with cold gaze and he walked away. She was afraid but she didn't want to lose him, so she run to him. And then suddenly there was big sound and she got an accident and fainted. 

At hospital, she gradually got better, but still she didn't understand what happened about Jan and had a little headache. While she was in hospital, there was a visitor for her. He is a man look alike Jan, and soon other visitors come to her. They were Jan and Josef. The man is like a Jan, so who is he? Their encounter is something like a happy things for them, but at the same time, it is sad thing which is related to the reason why Josef used to always avoid going Prague. There is a secret even in the important family....

 In Chapter1 which is different form other chapter, the story is about the event in Czechoslovakia and the year is 1957. There were a man and a woman who hold her baby in her arms. The place is near the border of Austria where the border guards stand with guns.

 A woman and a man talked about the plan and the way to the destination. At first, a woman was supposed to go to the destination, which is very "Austria". They wanted to go Austria from the dangerous home country, Czechoslovakia.  It was snowing, so they wore the white clothes so as not to being noticed. A woman and baby left the house at first. It was really dark and quiet. However, because she was running fast, her baby woke up in her back and started to cry. There was no sound, so the baby's crying was felt like so big sound. And someone in the car saw the woman and the baby, but they couldn't notice it. After that, shout-gun sound was heard, and after that, the only sound is the baby's crying then...

After I read this book, I thought that this book is a kind of warm story, but something like sad, so I can't say this is perfectly warm story. And I wonder what would I do if I knew some secret which is important and difficult to accept someday from my family or friend. 

At first, when I read the chapter1, I thought that this book has some different stories. But it was wrong and now I knew that the chapter1 was really important chapter for following chapters.
